Over 280 delegates attend RALGA general assembly
Kigali – Members of the Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) convened on June 16, 2026, for their annual general assembly, bringing together over 280 delegates from all levels of local government across the country.
In her opening remarks, RALGA Chairperson Cllr. Dr. Odette Uwizeye thanked members for their continued commitment and support to the association.

The general assembly received presentations on RALGA’s annual activity report and budget execution, as well as the audit report for the 2025/2026 fiscal year.
The assembly discussed and approved the association’s action plan and budget for the next fiscal year (2026/2027).
RALGA Secretary General Valens Uwineza emphasized that the main milestones of next year’s plan remain to strengthen the capacities of local government entities and support them in delivering high-performance, quality service delivery.
The association’s priorities for the next fiscal year include "developing and operationalising a digital training calendar to improve coordination of capacity-building interventions for local government staff and leaders; enhancing representation, expanding the internship program, etc." He said.

During the assembly, Ruhango District was recognised for its leadership mentorship programme “Ishuri Ry’Abayobozi”.
Ruhango Mayor Valens Habarurema said the innovation equips leaders with skills they pass on to citizens.
“It is a programme that trains and mentors leaders so they can improve service delivery and inspire citizens,” he said.
