#Kwibuka31: RALGA Joined the Nation in Honoring Victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi

The team toured the memorial to deepen their understanding of the historical context that led to the genocide and to honor the memory of the more than one million lives lost. As a gesture of remembrance and solidarity, wreaths were laid at the site where innocent men, women, and children were brutally killed.

During the visit, the team participated in an educational session led by Ibuka, the umbrella organization for genocide survivors. The lecture provided insight into the planning, execution, and denial of the genocide, with particular emphasis on the calvary endured by victims and survivors at ETO-Nyanza in Kicukiro—a site that has come to symbolize the abandonment experienced during the genocide.

In a message of reflection and resilience, Mr. Habimana Dominique, Secretary General of RALGA, expressed solidarity with survivors.

“As we remember, unite, and renew—we salute the resilience of survivors and the heroism of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA), which ended the genocide. Let us all reaffirm our commitment to fighting genocide ideology and preserving the truth of our history.” He said

Commemoration events continue across all districts and the City of Kigali throughout the 100-day period of Kwibuka31.
