VVSG-RALGA Project kicks off with capacity needs assessment

This project is the result of the cooperation between RALGA and VVSG (Vereniging Van Vlaamse Stedem en Gemeenten/Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities).

The project, which shall be piloted in both Karongi District from the Western Province and Bugesera District from the Eastern Province. The activities started with capacity needs assessment, following meetings that aimed at introducing the project.

The five-year project (2022-2026) intends to achieve two main results including strengthening the capacity of local authorities in ensuring local participation and equipping councilors and selected staff in the covered districts with knowledge and skills on inclusive participation for sustainable development.

The project activities shall focus on capacity building trainings, developing tools and knowledge sharing through peer learning exercises.

The project shall be financed by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGD) under the responsibility of the Belgium Ministry of Development Cooperation, and it contributes globally to specific SDGs 16,11,17,10 and5.

 In the context of Rwanda, RALGA-VVSG project prioritizes the sustainable urbanisation in line with the Government policy to foster urbanisation as one of key drivers of economic growth.
